Reviewing Batman Returns (Snes, 1992)

game Batman returns review

Following in a completely faithful way the film made by the always charismatic Tim Burton, the game took you to a Gothic city in full chaos, full of enemies and characters who wanted to beat the hell out of you.

The gameplay was “Beat’em up” type, that is, like the classic “Final Fight” or “Cadillacs and Dinosaurs”.

As I mentioned earlier, the game was very faithful to the film, as all the stages perfectly followed the events of the film in chronological order. The game itself was difficult, due to the small number of lives and items you could find. The most memorable part was the part where you could drive the batmobile, a wonder.

This is a pretty good game for its time, it was not extraordinary but it fulfilled its mission to entertain and be a faithful portrait of the film.

Batman Forever (1996) Video Game Review

game Batman Forever review

With the advent of the Justice League, Batman is back in fashion and it’s not just me, but thousands of fans around the world who are eager to see more about the Justice League, Batman and why not? suicide squad. But we still have a long wait for that while we’re waiting, I’ve decided to download one of the first Batman games, maybe some of you already know it, that is Batman Forever 1996 for Super Nintendo and Mega Drive.

Batman Forever was the last video game that was for 16-bit consoles, released alongside a movie where Jim Carrey, playing Riddler, caught a lot of attention. Batman Forever hasn’t been very faithful to the film, but that didn’t detract from the final quality of the game. In fact, we’re aware that movie adaptations are often quite disastrous, and while this game is inspired by the movie, it did so with a lot of quality.

The game allowed us to play the role of Batman or Robin, so you can play with another friend or alone. It’s a classic Beat’em up of the time when you can beat the crazy people of Arkham’s madhouse, the villains and minions of the Riddler’s Riddler, right and left. In Batman Forever we will also enjoy many typical gadgets of the character as weapons, among other effects that to be of the time, were very well thought out and elaborated.

One flaw I can attribute to you is the waiting time and slowness of this game. Accustomed to the new dynamic games and even faster in their loading, it is amazing how much the game has to be loaded between stages.

Batman Forever had some spectacular graphics for that time and showed characters of considerable good size on the screen. The protagonists were very striking and so were the followers. The scenery was very well finished and generally surprising.

The sound section was fine, it did its job and allowed us to enter fully into the dark and dangerous universe of Batman but honestly, it is not something to highlight.

Just to conclude, if you’re a fan of Batman, don’t miss this work that was released 22 years ago on Super Nintendo and MegaDrive. Batman Forever is a complicated, fun and technically very eye-catching game considering the time of year when the game was released. If you get the chance, try it alone or with a friend and draw your own conclusions.

Lego Batman: Review

game lego batman review

The dark knight has returned, but this time his universe and all his enemies will be reflected with Lego tiles. Enter Gotham City in an unprecedented way.

A few years ago, Travellers Tales surprised the industry with an adaptation of the first chapters of the Star Wars saga in a somewhat peculiar way, shaping their entire universe with Lego tiles. The success of the game was such that the original trilogy arrived soon after, and sometime later, the adaptation of Indiana Jones. This time we meet Lego Batman, with the same premises as his predecessors.

The story mode of the game is divided into two parts: the Batman and Robin part, and the enemy part. Each of them will contain 3 chapters, with 5 phases each, which makes a total of 30 screens to overcome. This time it is not based on any film, but focuses on the escape of the most dangerous criminals from Arkham, and their subsequent search for the leading couple.

In each phase, as usual in the saga, we will have to find 10 objects scattered throughout it, plus a red brick that will allow us to access an extra unlockable.

In the Batman and Robin phases, we will only switch between these two characters, which may seem monotonous at first. But it turns out that these characters can find areas where they can change their costumes, and thus gain various skills to overcome different obstacles. So, Batman can get suits to get through the fire, to plan, to plant bombs, or to break crystals with ultrasonic waves. Robin, for her part, will find suits that allow her to mess around with electronic devices, dive, climb magnetic walls, or collect objects that she will later use to activate mechanisms.

The whole system of changing costumes according to the moment will give that touch of variety to the history of this unique couple. But the real appeal of the game seemed to me to be the story of Arkham’s escaped criminals. This time we only play with two characters per screen, but we will vary in each phase to control the various enemies of the series.

The abilities of the enemy characters are quite ingenious and will make us enjoy these screens more. We have for example the Joker, who will have an electric glove to use against his enemies or to activate machines. Mr. Frio will use his beam to freeze enemies, and Enigma can mentally control some people to activate controls themselves. And so with a whole variety of the most charismatic characters in the world of Batman. Of course, classic skills such as double jumping and whipping have also returned.

We will again find phases with vehicles, although they have been reduced, and will be less than in other deliveries. Still, we’ll be able to climb on things as far-fetched as a carnivorous plant.

After completing the game, there’s no denying that the formula repeats itself and that despite the new features many people may begin to feel less hooked on messing around with Lego chips. I’m one of those who thinks that, although Lego Batman is a good game, it’s not up to Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones. You’ll enjoy it a lot, but there’s always that “I’ve played this before” taste.

The duration of the game is quite long if we want to find all the secrets hidden by the phases. This will force us to play each screen in the “Free Mode” option, where we can choose any character (good or bad) to take on any mission in search of the precious pieces.

Finally, to comment on a rumor about the saga, it seems that Travellers Tales has signed a contract with Warner for their next Lego game, so the rumors point strongly towards a possible Lego Harry Potter. And given the success of the franchise, I have no doubt that it would sell very well.

Returning to the game we’re dealing with, I recommend playing it to everyone who enjoyed previous releases, and to those who didn’t know about this type of game I recommend it even more. We are waiting for your impressions on this title, and for those of you who are undecided, I’ll leave you with a trailer for it.

Review Batman Arkham: Asylum (2009)

Game: Batman-Arkham-Asylum Review

The best superhero comes to this generation of consoles for the first time with Batman: Arkham Asylum and an advertising campaign worthy only of the best video games. Will this title meet expectations or will it stay in the middle of the road, like all superheroes?

It’s true that I’m a good Batman fan, my life has been strongly marked by this character and every time a game with his name is available, I run to the shops to buy it, but always with the idea that it won’t be good and I’m ready to be disappointed in one way or another. I can’t say that all his games have been bad or mediocre, there have been a few good ones, but never one like Arkham Asylum, who comes to define what a superhero title should be like.

Batman just caught the Joker one more time and took him back to Arkham Asylum. The Dark Knight, suspicious of the way he caught his nemesis, finds it too easy, and so escorts him almost all the way to his cell; apparently, it was all a trap and Joker has Arkham under control. Now our hero has to catch his worst enemy while facing some others who escaped in the chaos.

Arkham Asylum is an action game where you will use all of Batman’s skills to return control of the island to the authorities. What do you mean? The best way he knows how to do it: by investigating and subduing all the criminals in his path. The fighting system is simple but spectacular and fun, most encounters will be with more than three enemies, but if you are skilled enough, you can fight all the fights without a scratch on the cape… or maybe not. You can also use your cape to stun anyone in front of you to gain a little time and later in the game, you can use part of the arsenal of weapons and gadgets you find.

You can’t always deal with your opponents face to face, when you come across five armed guys, it’s time to take out the predator inside you. Batman can attack in different ways, either silently coming from behind opponents to knock them out or by intimidating methods, such as passing through glass, or by using explosives or gadgets.

Game Batman Arkham Asylum Reviewing

This doesn’t mean you’ll have to go through the game hitting enemies and advancing, you’ll also have to repair the damage the villains cause and save guards and doctors in danger. You can use detective tools to track your opponents, find out more about Arkham’s past and solve the puzzles of… you know who.

Where Batman: Arkham Asylum triumphs over all the games that had been made of the superhero, is in the way of assuming the role of Batman. This time I really felt that I was using the Dark Knight and not some misguided and poorly researched conception of some game creator. The story was written by Paul Dini of DC, a writer who is very familiar with the character. The voices are from actors who worked on several animated versions of the series, such as Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamill (Joker); the others also did an excellent job.

There are a lot of things to do in the game. In addition to the main story, you have the option of finding the trophies and solving two other types of puzzles left by the Riddler throughout Arkham, which will help you learn more about its story, as well as unlock more content. The encounters with the villains are epic and there are some very original moments, like the confrontation with Killer Croc.

At the end of the story, you can go all over the island to find the items you missed and have access to all levels of the two types of challenges: Combat and Predator. In the first, you have to fight to score as many points as possible and in the second you have to finish off the level enemies in the shortest time possible or by meeting certain criteria if you want to get the medals to get the achievements and trophies.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is an excellent game with an impressive technical level, is one of the best in this generation of consoles and will be remembered for a long time. Get ready to spend several days on Arkham Island, you are the guest of honor at this challenging and villainous party, a party that Batman will try to stop at any cost.
